Kerry Hawkins is a fine art photographer and freelance graphic designer, including social media.
"I attended the Art Institute of Boston, majoring in graphic design. During that time, I became hooked on photography in my second year of college and have been photographing ever since.
I love taking photos everywhere I travel or just about town. I also love taking photo walks and see what I find. Nature intrigues me, but I also love city scenes and anything with peeling paint, a bit of grit.
Henri Cartier-Bresson is one of my favorite photographers and adds high energy to his images. He knew how to capture a moment in time. He was a French photographer and considered a master of candid photography. having pioneered the genre of street photography.
I also frequent art museums where I am always looking for new inspiration and love to discover new photograph ers and contemporary artists. One of my favorites is the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. The museum's exhibits are inspiring and fun to explore. I walk away from the museum with new ideas and excitement.
In 2011 I co-founded the Dedham Square Artist Guild and for eight years, managed its gallery. I also did the marketing for the Guild, including social media and events. It was Dedham's first artist cooperative, owned and operated by its members. I was able to show my work in this shop/gallery in Dedham Square, and the Dedham Guild shows at the Dedham Community Theatre.
It has been fun and fulfilling to be involved with many community organizations such as Dedham Civic Pride and Dedham Library Innovation Team over the years. I have had the honor of working on several projects, including Art in Bloom, Dedham Portrait Project, and many public art projects in Dedham. I have been photographing many non-profit galas and fundraiser events in Dedham.
For two years, I have been in the Dedham Art Association. I have seen the group grow and I am proud to be involved with this art group. I have also been helping with social media for the group, and I am now the chair of the membership committee .
I’have enjoyed exhibiting my photography in group shows and even won an honorable mention award at the Dedham Art Association Westwood Library show.”
